Damp and moisture service

Condensation and mould control

We look at how moisture, heating, airflow and cold surfaces are interacting, then recommend practical ways to reduce condensation and mould.

When to call

Signs worth having checked.

  • Water on windows
  • Black mould in corners or behind furniture
  • Problems worse overnight or in winter
  • Stuffy rooms and persistent humidity
Worth knowing: Cleaning removes visible mould but not the conditions that caused it. The moisture balance needs to improve if the problem is to stay away.
How we assess it

The symptom is the starting point.

The same mark can have several causes. We use your description to prepare, then inspect the property before recommending work.

What does a survey include?
What we look at

Checks that put the symptoms in context.

  • Indoor humidity and surface temperatures
  • Extractor performance and background ventilation
  • Cold bridges, furniture placement and room layout
  • Heating patterns and sources of moisture
  • Leaks or other damp that may be contributing
What may follow

Clear next steps.

  • Better extraction or background ventilation
  • Positive input ventilation where suitable
  • Targeted mould cleaning or remediation
  • Practical guidance on humidity and heating
  • Building repairs where damp or cold bridging is also involved

The recommendation depends on the property and the evidence found during the survey.

Common questions

Condensation & mould: questions and answers.

Is black mould always caused by condensation?

No. Condensation is common, but leaks and damp building materials can also keep a surface wet enough for mould. Both possibilities should be checked.

Will opening windows solve condensation?

Opening windows can lower humidity for a while. A lasting improvement may also need effective extraction, background airflow and suitable heating.

What is positive input ventilation?

A PIV unit introduces filtered air at a controlled rate to improve air movement through the home. Whether it is suitable depends on the property and its existing ventilation.
