What happened and what the customer valued.
The customer’s public review gives us the location, the reason for the visit and what they valued about the service. We have used those details to tell the story clearly, without adding a diagnosis or method that was not published.
One assumption, two reported findings
The verified Checkatrade reviewer had concerns in two parts of a WA3 home: the hallway and an external living-room wall. Before the assessment, they believed both were rising damp.
The customer reports that the two areas did not have the same explanation. One was described to them as rising damp and the other as a cold-wall issue. That distinction changed the starting assumption and allowed each area to be considered separately.
What the review confirms about the work
The customer says WeatherWise Solutions went on to complete remedial work. They report that the team arrived on time, worked within the expected timeframe and left the working areas clean. They also describe the workers as respectful of the customer’s belongings and the rest of the home.
For the customer, the practical details of the visit also mattered: punctuality, care around belongings, cleanliness and finishing within the expected period all formed part of their positive assessment.
The guarantee mentioned by the reviewer
The reviewer says the guarantee was backed by an insurance company and that this gave them peace of mind. WeatherWise Solutions’ response to the review also refers to an insurance-backed guarantee.
An insurance-backed guarantee is not a blanket promise covering every damp symptom or every part of a property. Coverage depends on the qualifying work and the issued documents. Anyone considering similar work should read the actual certificate, exclusions and claim process supplied for their project rather than relying on a general website summary.
What homeowners can learn from this case.
The following guidance explains why the issues in the review deserve proper investigation. It is general information and is not presented as an unpublished finding from this property.
Why two damp patches may need two explanations
Moisture can enter or accumulate in a building in different ways. Ground moisture, rain penetration, plumbing defects, humid indoor air and cold surfaces can produce symptoms that look similar from a distance. More than one mechanism can also be present in the same home.
That is why a survey should assess each affected area in context rather than assign one label to the whole property. The RICS joint position statement for traditional buildings recommends looking at the building as a whole and seeking the source of excess moisture. The WA3 review is a useful customer-reported example of an initial single explanation being separated into two findings.
What “cold wall” can and cannot tell you
A cold internal surface can increase the chance of water vapour condensing when surface temperature falls below the dew point. It may also point towards a thermal weakness or simply a particularly exposed part of the building. Establishing which explanation applies requires information about temperatures, humidity, ventilation, construction and weather conditions.
The reviewer uses only the phrase cold wall. No measurements or final mechanism are published, so this page does not rename it as condensation or prescribe insulation or ventilation. It records the customer’s wording and explains why a separate investigation matters.
What we can say with confidence.
- Hallway and living-room symptoms assessed separately
- Different causes identified within the same home
- Completed work with an insurance-backed guarantee for the qualifying scope
What we have not assumed.
- Which room was associated with rising damp and which with the cold wall
- The measurements, repair specification, materials or cost
- The precise terms, provider or duration of the insurance-backed guarantee
